Temporary stone installation in the Calanca valley.: 32 granite blocks of varying sizes ideally draw the shape of a crocodile.
32 as the degrees Fahrenheit of the melting point of the ice to underline the theme of the Biennale: a reflection on the progress of civilization in the fight against the climate emergency.
The material chosen is evidence of the only industrial sector in the valley: the Alfredo Polti quarries in the municipality of Arvigo. The stone will be engraved using both old and new techniques. The project will be curated with the participation of the children of the valley in collaboration with educational institutions. It is the new generations through the complete experience of the artist’s profession, from the idea to the realization, that will design the territory.
Here in the valley, every gesture made in the interest of the private individual has always been made for the good of the community. This is the tradition that marks a moment of civilisation, as a universal example of civil commitment by citizens.
